Chitosan is a positively charged
dietary fiber that is extracted from the shells of crustaceans. It's
positive charge causes it to be lipophilic (meaning that it binds to
negatively charged fatty acids, including cholesterol. NOW Foods
Chitosan is formulated with Liposan ULTRA™. Liposan™ ULTRA is
designed to dissolve in stomach acid in just one minute as opposed to
30-40 minutes with other brands of Chitosan.
As Chitosan passes through the
gut it may absorb up to 5 times its weight in fat. It is also thought
that Chitosan may absorb fat soluble vitamins, such as A, D, and E. It
is recommended that Chitosan be taken with lunch and dinner and that
vitamins and essential fatty acids be taken with breakfast.
Suggested Use: As a dietary supplement
take 2 capsules with meals 1-2 times daily. Refrain from taking Chitosan
4 hours before or after the ingestion of fat soluble vitamins (i.e.. A,
D, E, K) or any medications. Not to be used by pregnant or lactating
women.
