Scientist at Rutgers University have
isolated compounds in cranberries that seem to ward off urinary tract
infections. For years cranberries have been used as a unofficial remedy
for infections, but now there appears to be scientific evidence to
validate that claim. The presumed effect of cranberries is one of the
main reasons that Alacer developed a cranberry version of it's popular
Emer'gen-C Vitamin C Drink Mix. According to the study, the
compounds-known as tannins-have the ability to block the E-coli bacteria
from binding to human cell walls, thus preventing urinary tract
infections. The study concluded tannins in cranberries may be the "major
component of these juices contributing to their salutary effects on
urinary tract infections".
